Maryland vs. UPenn 10/4/08
10/10/2008 01:14 am
The Maryland Women's Hockey team lost 10-2 against the University of Pennsylvania Quakers Saturday despite an enormous amount of heart and effort.

In the first period, the Quakers scored seven goals total, discouraging the Terrapins at first. However, in the second period the Lady Terps only allowed Pennsylvania two goals, and in the third the Quakers were held to one, making it a much more closely matched game. Coming back after disappointment seemed to be a theme in this game. After the first goal was scored by the Quakers, Liz Labor came right back to score a goal for the Terps. The other goal for Maryland was scored by Caroline Reder. "We had to shake off the nerves in the first period," said Jackie Johnson, "We really got it together and started looking like a team in the second and third periods."

The next game for the Terps will be Friday, October 10 against the University of Delaware Blue Hens. "We think we have it together for Friday against UDel," said Magaly Bittner, "but it'll be a tough one." As always, the Terps will come out fighting, improving with every game.

Sarah Easterwood and Elizabeth Labor netted a goal each against a tough Wolves defense, and Gabi Tomkins made 20 saves for a final score of 2-7.

The team travels to Philadelphia for their season opener against the University of Pennsylvania this Saturday.
